Wine That's Good For Your Heart

Darryll Groom, head of Groom Wineries, has a young son who was born with a heart defect. Colby Groom underwent two surgeries by the time he was 9 to repair the defect. He is now an avid supporter and fundraiser for heart research. His first fundraising effort – charging people to see his scars – netted $1,000. Later he suggested to his father that they create a wine, and donate all profits to heart research. Thus evolved Colby Red, available at Walgreens throughout the nation for $12.99 a bottle.

Colby Red will be featured at this year’s Cotes du Coeur 20th Anniversary International Fine Wine Auction and Celebrity dinner April 9 at the Anatole benfitting the Dallas Division of the American Heart Association. The Grooms are donating all proceeds from sales of Colby Red to the Dallas Division. Darryll Groom was named to Cotes du Coeur’s highest honor, the Tete de Cuvee award, in 2001.
