Oklahoma City Volunteer Named AHA Physician of the Year

On June 27, Mary Ann Bauman, M.D., was named American Heart Association Physician of the Year. This national award is presented annually to a practicing physician who has rendered outstanding contributions to the accomplishment of the AHA’s mission to build healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke.

Mary Ann is medical director for Women’s Health & Community Relations at INTEGRIS Health, Inc., in Oklahoma City. She was honored for her enthusiastic leadership on the AHA’s behalf at the local, affiliate and national levels, and for her commitment to educating patients about cardiovascular disease risk.

As a past member of the Strategic Planning Task Force that created the Association’s 2010-13 Strategic Plan, the AHA mission and goals are always at the forefront of Mary Ann’s volunteer service.

Referred to by colleagues as a true “ambassador for health and wellness,” she has made numerous presentations on cardiovascular health and the AHA mission, and is actively involved in Oklahoma City’s Heart Walk and Go Red For Women’s Circle of Red. As a primary care physician, she provides constant reminders to patients of the vital importance of cardiovascular health to overall well-being.

Mary Ann was the 2010-12 president of the SouthWest Affiliate and she currently serves as the national HeartChase chairperson. She is a member of the national Consumer Health & Quality Coordinating Committee, Diversity Leadership Committee, Hospital Accreditation Business Management Committee, and The Guideline Advantage Committee. She also serves on the SouthWest Affiliate Nominating and Corporate Operations Committees.  She is a past president of the Oklahoma City Division and was co-chair of the Oklahoma City Heart Walk in 2008 and 2009.

Congratulations to Mary Ann on this great honor!
